Memphis Theatre

The Memphis Theatre was built in 1994, and is a project of the local community. The former Memphis Theatre building, located on the next block west from the current theatre location, was destroyed by fire in 1992. Through the efforts of local citizens, funds were raised to rebuild the new facility.

The Theatre shows family-friendly movies from early fall through early summer, and is staffed by volunteer labor, with all proceeds going to the maintenance and improvement of the building and equipment. The theatre then becomes the venue for Memphis Community Players for their live summer performances of musical or comedy productions.
The facility is also used in the spring for the annual production of the drama department from the Scotland County R-1 High School, and throughout the year for country music shows featuring area entertainers. Local organizations also use the building as a meeting place.
