Scotland County Senior Center
The Scotland County Senior Center provides congregate and home-delivered meals to senior citizens in the Memphis area. Volunteers from local churches and service organizations transport the home-delivered meals to those who are unable to travel to the center. Qualification for home-delivery is based entirely on need and not on financial resources.
The current facility was built in 1983, when the local 10-member board received loan funds from the USDA Farmers Home Administration. The Center is open six days a week, Monday through Saturday, providing meals to persons 60 and over. The Center asks for a donation of $2.25 per meal for those 60 and over. Persons under the age of 60 may eat at the Center for the very reasonable price of $4.00 per meal.
The Center provides social and educational opportunities for senior citizens, including bingo, card parties, fundraising meals, local musical entertainment, and health screenings. The facility also serves as the site for local groups to meet, and is available to rent for private functions.
