Scotland County Genealogical Society

The Scotland County Genealogical Society (SCGS) was organized in 1986 to bring together individuals with an interest in the history and genealogy of Scotland County, Missouri. The Society has a large collection of records pertaining to Scotland County and the surrounding area. The records are housed at the SCGS Building, 115 W. Madison St. in Memphis. Presently, the building is open to the public by appointment only. Research is available for a nominal fee to those who are unable to come to Scotland County to do their own searching. And individual membership to the SCGS is $12.00 annually; family membership is $12.00; a student membership is $6.00; and a life membership is $100.00. All members receive a quarterly newsletter, published in January, April, June and October. Monthly meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at the SCGS building and are open to the public.

SCGS has numerous publications for sale, including: Scotland County Sesquicentennial 1841-1991, Our First 150 Years, a 464-page hardcover book compiled by the SCGS and published in 1992. Society members are currently involved in updating local cemetery records and abstracting other Scotland County records.
