Bible Grove School House History
The Bible Grove School House was built in 1921 and it's now listed on the National Historical Register.
The building was constructed to consolidate the many schoolhouses in the Mt. Pleasant Township. Enterprise, Huston, Hoop Pole and Bluegrass were one-room schoolhouses that served Mt. Pleasant in the 1870's. 1898 had added McClure/Liberty and Purvis schoolhouses.
The brick for the Bible Grove schoolhouse was purchased from a company in St. Louis and delivered via railroad to Baring, and then transported to Bible Grove by horse and wagon. R.A. Clark, Clarence D. Dunn, Sol P. Corwin, James Toliver Salisbury, and William Blaine played major roles in raising funds and building the school.
In 1952, Knob View and Frogge Schools consolidated with the Bible Grove School. The Frogge School was moved to Bible Grove and connected to the south part of the building to serve as the kitchen. It has since been removed.
The school had students in Kindergarten through High School until 1956. In 1957, the high school students began being bused to Memphis. The school operated with students in K-8 until finally closing in 1995.
