The
Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce is the voice of business in Scotland County.
It has had many names over the years -- Memphis Chamber of Commerce, Memphis Merchants Association,
Scotland County Professional Business Association, and so on. But one thing has remained the same, the
Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to promoting and fostering local business.
The Memphis Chamber does many things to help promote local business. For many years, the
Memphis Chamber has been most famous for its Pancake Days in April and Peanut Days in
June. Recently, other promotions such as the Lighting of the Square at Christmas, the Scotland County Website, Sidewalk Sales, bringing Santa Clause to Memphis, and Candidate Forums before elections have kept the
Memphis Chamber busy.
Officers for 2004 are Chuck Kigar, President; Ken McMinn, Vice President;
Emily Mauck, Treasurer.
The Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce meets monthly, on the second Tuesday of the month at 6 PM at
Java Jitters in Memphis. These meetings feature club business and updates, as well as sometimes featuring speakers with information that is helpful to local business.
A yearly membership to the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce is $60. A 6
month membership available in July is only $30.00
